Almost anyone who has visited Australia will have been warned at some point to watch out for drop bears. Like the related koala, drop bears aren't really bears at all- they are marsupials. Whilst koalas are ultra-specialised eucalyptus eaters, drop bears much prefer flesh (including human, if they can get it). They are ambush predators- so all visitors down under would do well to scan the higher branches in Gum forests, because once the drop bear lands on its prey... it's already too late.
