Melon Heads

Mick Storm 🇺🇸

Medium: Digital Sculpture
Creation Date: 4/9/2024

The melon heads are orphan children who were experimented on by a doctor resulting in large, hairless heads and malformed bodies. When their orphanage burned down, they escaped into the woods where they are known to attack people who get lost.

Why did you choose to sculpt this piece?

I'm in the US, and I honestly could not think of any legendary monsters besides Bigfoot, and wasn't interested in doing that. So I did some research and learned about melon heads, and it seemed like it would be fun to do a composition with 3 figures in it. And I just generally like the idea of feral mutant children!

How long have you been sculpting? What is your artistic background and style?

About 7 years sculpting in Zbrush, been doing traditional arts for much longer.

How long did it take to create the piece? What tools / software did you use for your creation? Any insight on your process?

Not sure, but at least 80 hours - I used this as an opportunity to try a lot of new techniques and workflows, so that time would not be a good indicator of how long was spent working directly on the piece. I use lots of tools in the process, but the main ones are Zbrush, Substance Painter & Houdini. I primarily use redshift for rendering.

Is this piece for sale? How can a fan acquire it?

I would like to make some prints or STLs of it at some point. You can contact me directly if interested.
