The "Nachzehrer" is a type of revenant akin to a vampire, believed to drain the life force of  people without leaving its grave. It accomplishes this through various means such as  emitting screams or casting its malevolent gaze upon individuals. Legend also suggests that  the Nachzehrer sustains itself by consuming its own flesh, which coincides with outbreaks of deadly plagues in the community. 

To prevent further harm, measures were taken such as sewing shut the mouths and eyes of  the deceased, as well as placing metal objects upon their bodies or even exhuming the  bodies and employing methods typically associated with combating vampires, such as  staking them.

Why did you choose to sculpt this piece?

For me the story behind this creature is macabre in an interesting way and its fascinating for  me that people have believed in myths like this to explain plagues and diseases.
