The penanggalan or penanggal is a nocturnal vampiric entity from Malay ghost myths. It takes the form of a floating disembodied woman's head, with its organs and entrails trailing from its neck. The name penanggalan derives from the word tanggal, meaning "to remove or take off", because its form is that of a floating disembodied woman's head, with its organs and entrails trailing from its neck. The penanggalan's victims are traditionally pregnant women and young children, men are usually avoided by the penanggalan and spy on them throughout the night as a way to protect the expectant mother or newborn. As traditional Malay dwellings were stilt-houses, the penanggal would hide under the stilts of the house and use its long tongue to lap up the blood of the new mother. Those whose blood the penanggalan feeds on contract a wasting disease that is almost inescapably fatal.
I chose this because I think this would be a challenging piece for me to do especially with the hair and floating organs.
Plus having the stand adds to the challenge as well.
How long have you been sculpting? What is your artistic background and style?
Already answered in the mini interview. ( editors note : 😅 dude... )
How long did it take to create the piece? What tools / software did you use for your creation? Any insight on your process?
Took me a month from start to finish, but I only work 1-2 hours a day. I used photoshop for the initial concept then moved on to Zbrush to sculpt everything and then finished it off in Blender.
Not much insight I can say that is not already out there, it's just the basic block out with big shapes and slowly work onto the finer details.
Is this piece for sale? How can a fan acquire it?
Maybe, If people are interested. (can probably leave this section out)
Are you looking for work? If so, in what role & location?
Not looking for any full time but if you are looking for some quick gnarly creature concept, let me know!
