The Wendigo is a flesh-eating beast or evil spirit that is most active during the colder months.
Many native legends view it as a spirit of greed, gluttony, and insatiable hunger.
It's presence is easily sensed, and smelled, due to a distinct odor of rot and decay.
It often mimics human voices, screams, loved ones, or anything that might entice its victim to come to it.
In some legends it is believed the Wendigo can possess other humans and fill them with greed and selfishness, eventually turning them into Wendigos as well.
I've been into creature folklore and myths as long as I can remember and the Wendigo has always been one of my favorites.
How long have you been sculpting? What is your artistic background and style?
I love doing art in many mediums across both 2d and 3d.. everything from pixel art to 3d animation.
I've been dabbling with 3D off and on since the late 90s but discovered Zbrush around 2014 and it quickly became my favorite 3d app.
I mostly enjoy making realtime art with the combination of zbrush and substance painter.
Horror and dark fantasy themed art is what I have the most fun creating.
How long did it take to create the piece? What tools / software did you use for your creation? Any insight on your process?
I used Zbrush and Substance Painter. I spent around 6 hours on the sculpt and around 4 hours prepping and texturing.
For the textured version I decimated the high poly and then to save time did an auto unrwrap for the uvs in Painter which worked better than I expected.
Is this piece for sale? How can a fan acquire it?
Not at the moment but I plan to open an online shop for 3D prints and one of a kind hand painted prints soon!
Are you looking for work? If so, in what role & location?
I work full time at a regular job and mostly do art as a hobby and passion, I'm always open to remote freelance work and take it on when I can, especially for indie game or film studios.
